Former PCTA Director, the Rev. James A. Doubleday, of Issaquah, WA, died of prostate cancer on September 21, 1996, at the age of 77. A native of Binghamton, NY, Rev. Doubleday was a graduate of Bowdoin College and the Episcopal Theological School in Cambridge, MA. He led an active life pursuing his ministry and hobbies, including recreational hiking, railroading and collectingbooks on the civil war and on clowns.

Jim and Barbara, his wife of 49 years, were supporters of the PCTA since its founding, and he served as the trail register monitor for several locations in northern Washington. He had hiked more than 1300 miles of the PCT, mostly in California.

Rev. Doubleday served as the Rector in numerous Episcopal parishes in the east and midwest before being named as Chaplain to the Bishop at San Francisco's Grace Cathedral in 1967. He left the ministry in 1969 to become executive director of the American Cancer Society in San Francisco, and then in Sacramento, CA.

Gifts in memory of Rev. Doubleday's love of the the PCT and his work with the PCTA will be acknowledged and accounted for in a special fund to help endow the work of the Association.
