Trail Classes Begin. Choose between:
A) Women Hiking the PCT: PCT female hikers will discuss
the opportunities and challenges facing women on the trail.
B) Volunteer Trail Maintenance: PCT volunteers maintain
and repair hundreds of miles of trail each year. These trail
maintainers will share stories and tell you how you can help!
10:30am to 11:30am
Choose between:
A) GPS, Map & Compass Reading: Jeff Duesing, Local
REI expert - Learn the basics of navigation using a GPS. The
class will focus on understanding how the global positioning
system (GPS) works, who uses it, why you might want a GPS
unit, and how to find one to suit your needs.
B) Packing
Light: Glen Van Peski - This long-time backpacker began
making his own light-weight backpacks and is well-known for
his knowledge of ultra-light backpacking and gear. Find out
how to lighten your load!
11:45am to 1:15pm
Lunch. Order boxed lunches on Registration
Form or bring your own. There are no restaurants nearby.
1:15pm to 2:15pm
Choose between:
A) PCT Thru-Hike Panel: Many hikers attempt to Thru-Hike
the PCT but not all are able to complete the trek. Past thru-hikers
will provide insights and lessons learned on their journeys.
B) Trail Angels: Donna Saufley - Trail Angels are a
special breed of people who provide warmth, comfort, laughter,
and shelter for the weary hiker. Trail Angel Donna will share
her experiences and motivations.
2:30pm to 3:30pm
Choose between:
A) Leave No Trace: Connie Davis & Liz Garland, LNT
advocates - The Leave No Trace organization is dedicated to
promoting and inspiring responsible outdoor recreation. Connie
and Liz will discuss challenges and controversies.
B) Current Trail Issues: Representatives from USDA
Forest Service, National Park Service, and the Bureau of Land
Management will discuss recent trail damage due to fire, torrential
rains, and washouts. They will also review the damage in the
Glacier Peak area, the Land Acquisition program, and information
about requirements for bear canisters.
4:00pm to 5:00pm
Annual Business Meeting
7:00pm
Awards Dinner featuring keynote speaker, former Secretary
of the Interior, Bruce Babbitt.
