We reccomend that you hike the trail with a partner. This
is safer, easier and more fun. With a partner, your pack is
lighter because of shared gear. If there should be a mishap,
you have a greater chance of survival. 2663 miles of trail
is a long way to go alone. Much of it is seldom traveled,
except by thru-hikers. One can go days without seeing a soul,
it can get very lonely.
The best partner is one you have known for a long time, but
if you had one of those, you wouldn't be looking at this page!
If you prefer to look in cyberspace, checkout our Forums
Section. Just search for partners and you'll find
a number of new friends also interested in a trail quest.
If you pefer more conventional channels, we can post your
notice in our magazine The PCT Communicator. Just e-mail
us with your request, or you can call us at 916-349-2109.
Be carefull about who you pick. They will be closer than
a spouse for the next 6 months. For a story of a trip partner
choice gone bad, read the begining of Cindy Ross's book Journey
on the Crest.
