PACIFIC CREST TRAIL DETOUR FOR BADGER BUTTE FIRE

The Pacific Crest Trail is closed due to the Badger Butte and other spot fires burning on the Warm Springs Indian Reservation. At this time the closure is from north of Olallie Lake area at the Triangle Lake Horse Camp area, to the just south of the Clackamas Lake Campground where the PCT crosses Road 42.

The walk around route is the same length as the trail route and is as follows:

Where the PCT skirts Forest Road 4220 near Triangle Horse Camp, turn right on the 4220 road and head north. Go through the green gate at the intersection with Road 4690 and 4220.

Continue north on Road 4220 to the junction with Forest Road 4220-110. This is the old Skyline Trail/Road and is very scenic. Bear to the right on the 110 road and follow it to the intersection with the paved Forest Road 42.

Take a right on Road 42 and head north to the Clackamas Lake Historic Ranger Station area just past the turn off to the Clackamas Lake Campground and south of Forest Road 57. There is a small visitor center office, historic museum, and campground hosts on the compound for part of the week.

Pick up the PCT just north of the Joe Graham Horse Camp and Forest Road 42/57 intersection on your left (west) and head north along Timothy Lake.

Be aware there is another PCT closure on the south flank of Mt. Hood that may still be in effect and takes you on the east side of Mt. Hood. Packets for this PCT detour route should be available at the trailhead by Joe Graham and also at Barlow Pass.

If the Badger Butte Fire grows, we may be closing the PCT at Breitenbush Campground south of the Olallie area rather than at Triangle Lake.
