Deep Creek Detour

Deep Creek Detour

Detour signs posted along part of unpaved Highway 173 that is now closed to vehicle traffic

Yesterday the forest service put up signs for the detour around Deep Creek because of landslides and bridges damaged from winter storms. The 14.2 mile detour bypasses 15.7 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail beginning at the Deep Creek bridge near mile 298.3. The detour route follows forest road 3N34 west for 7.7 miles to Highway 173 where it heads north another 6.5 miles to rejoin the PCT near Mojave River Forks Reservoir dam. Most of Highway 173 along the detour route was closed to vehicles by Caltrans a few weeks ago. Detour maps will be available at www.pctmap.net and www.pcta.org in the next few days.
