Snow Could Delay Opening Of Red's Meadow Until June 25

Due to record snowfall along the Sierra section of the Pacific Crest Trail, Reds Meadow road is projected to open later than normal this year.

Pacific Crest Trail thru-hikers who are planning food drops or resupplies via Reds Meadow Valley should be advised that June 25th is a tentative opening date and there is a possibility the road opening could be further delayed.

For more information, please call the Mammoth Lakes Welcome Center at (760) 924-5500 or visit the Welcome Center at 2510 Hwy 203 next to the Mammoth Ranger Station.

The 2011 versions of my California Section H maps includes on page 22a an overview map of the Mammoth Pass area and descriptions of alternate routes from Red’s Meadow into Mammoth Lakes over Mammoth Pass [3.5 or 4 miles] or down the Minaret Road [4.2 miles].

PCT hikers will want also want to closely monitor when Tuolumne Meadows Store/Post office opens this year as it’s opening could also be delayed by the heavy snow.
