I am updating the Pacific Crest Trail snow information to use the “snow depth” data instead of the “snow water equivalent” data that I previously used. This information should be more useful for hikers. I have also changed a couple of the waypoints shown on the images and added some closer views of the Old Station to Fish Lake section of the trail [northern California and southern Oregon]. Going forward I will update these images every 7 – 10 days for hikers on the trail who don’t have access to Google Earth.
These images are from the National Weather Service Snow Analyses 3D Interface showing June 22th data in Google Earth along with my PCT tracks.
To see the most current data yourself: Download Google Earth, download my PCT tracks, then download the most recent snow overlay or just click each image below for the June 22 data.
I know from personal experience these images sometimes underestimate the amount of snow on the trail. The smallest speck on these images is probably miles of snow on the trail and smaller patches of snow may not show up.
