The Chips fire has grown to 18,001 acres, the fire is only 10% contained. The Pacific Crest Trail Association is reporting the following closure information:
The PCT is officially closed from Three Lakes (south of the Bucks Lake Wilderness), CA northbound to Cold Springs (USFS Rd. 307) on the Lassen National Forest due to the Chips Fire. Hikers and equestrians are recommended not to travel on the PCT between Bucks Summit north to Hwy 36 (west of Chester). The closure in the Bucks Lake Wilderness is an operational closure to avoid hikers walking in to fire operations at Hwy 70. No safe, viable alternate routes are available for hiker or equestrian travel. PCT hikers are not to use Caribou Road as the area is officially closed. Plumas County Transit between Quincy and Chester is recommended.
