Fires on Shasta-Trinity National Forest

After receiving approximately 3,000 lightning strikes throughout Northern California in the past week, there are multiple fires burning on Shasta-Trinity National Forest. The complex of fires can be seen on inciweb.org under 2013 Shf Lightning.

As of the afternoon of July 29th, the PCT remains open through the area but trail users should expect smokey conditions and fire fighting activity.

The Soda Fire east of Castella, Calif. was especially close to the PCT. The Soda Fire was/is burning north of Girard Ridge on the descent to I-5. The trail did not officially close in the area and the fire is in the final stages of containment.

Hikers and equestrians may choose to re-route around the area to avoid smokey conditions.
