Obsidian Limited Entry Area, Ore.

Deep in the Three Sisters Wilderness, an exceptional section of the PCT requires extra management to protect it. A special permit is required for overnight and day visits to the Obsidian Limited Entry Area.  Click here for the full details on obtaining this permit. Most of these permits for are reserved well in advance.

The Obsidian Limited Entry Area runs from approximately mile 1978 just south of Obsidian Creek to approx. mile 1979 near Glacier Way Trail. This is in the Three Sisters Wilderness, in Section E, south of Mckenzie Pass. You must have the special permit to camp at either Obsidian Creek or Glacier Creek.

Travelers holding backcountry permits for travel along the PCT, including the Long-distance Permit, should not camp in the zone unless they have obtained this extra permit. Hikers and equestrians traveling the PCT are allowed to pass through as long as they don’t leave the PCT.
