Tim McGuire hits the trail

One of PCTA’s newest board members, Tim McGuire, is embarking  today on a summer adventure along the Pacific Crest Trail. Over the course of the next 3 months, Tim is aiming to hike the entire length of Oregon, heading north from the California border. His excitement is contagious and we’re looking forward to following along.

He’s hiking across the state while continuing to work full time! Take a look at the map below. It’s a great model for hiking the Oregon PCT as a series of long weekends and a couple of extended trips.

Like many of us, Tim’s been bitten by the PCT bug. His office is plastered with PCT maps, he talks about the trail with everyone he meets, he’s volunteering his time and expertise to better the trail as a board member and he’s supplied hundreds of socks to PCT thru-hikers through the KEEN Olympus sock test program. His ambitious plans helped PCTA secure a grant from KEEN, as he pledged to undertake this hike if we were awarded the money. When he’s not on trail, Tim is KEEN’s Business Director of Bags & Socks.

Watch this blog for updates throughout the summer months as he continues north towards Washington.

Tim’s colleagues at KEEN will follow his hike from the comfort of KEEN’s headquarters in Portland, Oregon. Some of his co-workers will even join him for portions of his hike.

Tim’s colleagues are joining him for sections and are following along from KEEN headquarters.

Tim will tackle the Oregon portion of the PCT as seven separate sections.

Tim split the PCT up into seven great chunks.
