Land Protection Program Vision
PCTA’s ultimate goal in land protection is for the Pacific Crest Trail to be permanently protected, with the last private parcels of trail and viewshed placed into public ownership or conservation easements. This new staff position will enable the PCTA, for the first time, to build a dedicated land protection program. The Land Protection Manager/Director will be an integral part in establishing the PCTA’s long term vision for land protection and will allow us to proactively develop and implement a protection strategy.
Land Protection Manager/Director
In this position you will have the opportunity to:
- Work to protect the Pacific Crest Trail experience for future generations
- Conserve natural resources in some of the most spectacular landscapes in the country
- Work with a wide variety of agency lands staff and national and regional land trusts along the entire trail
- Spend time outdoors and on the trail
The Land Protection Manager/Director is based in the Sacramento office and serves as the project lead with private and public landowners for purposes of identifying opportunities to protect land within the Pacific Crest Trail corridor. He or she works in close collaboration with PCTA’s regional and trailwide staff, as well as agency and organizational partners, to accomplish these goals. The Land Protection Manager/Director manages both fee title and conservation easement projects.
We are seeking applicants with:
- A bachelor’s degree in an applicable field. Advanced study is desirable.
- Minimum of five years experience in land acquisition and conservation programs implemented through public/private partnerships
- Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of partners and individuals with a wide variety of socioeconomic backgrounds
- High-level familiarity with public agency land acquisition organization and processes
- Ability to manage multiple properties, multiple funding sources and processes, develop programs and use resources of the organization to accomplish a wide variety of initiatives
- Strong organization, writing and speaking skills
- Independent, self-motivated professional performance
- Experience with GIS databases
