The 2018 Pacific Crest Trail Association Photo Contest is open.

Please consider sending in your best photos from the trail. We’ll use them throughout the year in our publications and promotional materials to illustrate the beauty and experience the PCT provides. Your volunteer photos help protect the PCT for future generations.

This year, prizes provided by LEKI will go to the top three overall winners. Our volunteer judges will pick three winners in each category and then choose the best three of the entire show. Many thanks to our friends at LEKI for sponsoring the contest.

  • First Place – $500 worth of LEKI gear
  • Second Place – $300 worth of LEKI gear
  • Third Place – $200 worth of LEKI gear

Deadline for entry is Feb. 26, 2018. Winners will be announced in the spring/summer 2018.

Contest categories

  • Trail Majesty – A photo that captures the beauty of the PCT.
  • Human Spirit – A photo along the PCT that shows hikers or riders and captures the essence of being there.
  • Equestrian – Any photo along the PCT that shows horses/stock and/or their riders in their PCT environment.
  • Trail Work – Photos of PCTA or other trail maintenance volunteers along the PCT.
  • Flora and Fauna – Photos of plants and animals along the PCT.

Many thanks in advance for entering. Without your great photos, we would have a difficult time illustrating the beauty and wonder of the PCT.

Mark Larabee is the PCTA's Advocacy Director. He is the former editor of the "PCT Communicator" magazine and co-author of "The Pacific Crest Trail: Exploring America's Wilderness Trail" published in 2016. Larabee is a journalist, part of a team who won the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for breaking news for The Oregonian newspaper. He hiked the PCT across Oregon for a 2005 series for the paper and has been with PCTA since 2010. He lives in Portland.
