For many years, Scout and Frodo, famed trail angels in San Diego, have hosted thousands of PCT hikers at their home and—with the help of so many others—driven them to the Southern Terminus for the start of their adventures. Covid-19 changed everything, making it unsafe to gather with hikers as they have in the past.
One of the many wonderful things that Scout and Frodo have offered over the years has been their “Dinner Talk”. Imagine 40 hikers a night listening to Scout and Frodo provide last minute education about leaving the trail better than you found it, having a safe hike, giving back, and having a great experience. Not being able to offer it in person, we asked them to record it. Here it is.
This year, PCTA would really like the Class of 2021 to embrace the idea that outside is pretty safe. It’s the socializing, car rides, shared hotels and time inside that worries us. Get out there and have a wilderness journey. This isn’t going to be a normal year – please do your part to have protect yourself and our community.
As they say, “Please take care, stay safe, and MAKE WISE DECISIONS.”
You can hear more from them in Scout’s book Journeys North or his PCT or CDT coffee table books. Here’s Scout’s author website and their trail angel website.
