Central California Trail Closure

Reds Meadow Road closure

Reds Meadow Road is being rebuilt. The resulting closures will have significant impacts to access in 2024, 2025, and possibly 2026. Be sure to read Inyo National Forest’s website if you are hoping to visit Reds Meadow. The project will impact people starting or ending trips, resupplying, car camping, or simply visiting for a day.

Reds Meadow Road will be OPEN Friday mornings at 9:00 AM until Sunday evenings at 7:00 PM with the last ESTA Shuttle Bus.

Exception: opening day of June 7, the road will open at 12:00 PM.

Reds Meadow Road will be CLOSED 24 hours per day for construction work Sunday at 11:00 PM through Friday morning at 9:00 AM.

People with wilderness permits: entry/exit will only be permitted Friday through Sunday. Entry/exit will not permitted Monday through Thursday.

When the road is closed, the best access between Mammoth Lakes and the PCT is via the Red Cones/Mammoth Pass Trail. If you’re planning a shorter trip, you can also consider delaying until the weekend.

Again, please read Inyo National Forest’s website.
