Northern California Trail Closure

Caldor Fire in the Lake Tahoe region

Updated 10/18 12:35 PM Several closure orders affecting this area have been reduced in size or lifted. Now, the PCT is effectively closed from Carson Pass to the southern boundary of Desolation Wilderness.

The Pacific Crest Trail is closed on Eldorado National Forest and the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit from Carson Pass, mile 1076.5, to the southern boundary of Desolation Wilderness, mile 1095.5.

Between Carson Pass and Echo Summit, there are technically a few open miles because the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit lands there are open, but those miles cannot be accessed via the PCT due to the closures in Eldorado National Forest. The trail weaves back and forth between the two forests.
