Washington Trail Closure

Closures west of the PCT in Glacier Peak Wilderness

There are no open and maintained trails to exit the PCT to the west on the Darrington Ranger District in Glacier Peak Wilderness. More broadly, from about mile 2495 to mile 2572 there is no good way to travel west from the PCT. The PCT remains open, just very isolated.

The Penders Canyon Fire closure impacts access to and from the Pacific Crest Trail in Glacier Peak Wilderness. Forest Service road #49 and the North Fork Sauk Trail (#649) are closed. The N. Fork Sauk is also the primary climbing route for Glacier Peak.

To the north, the Suiattle River Road is closed due to the Downey Creek Fire closure. This closure order remains in effect through October 6, 2021 due to on going hazards from the fire. This closure includes:

  • Suiattle River Rd. (FR 26) from Buck Creek Campground to the east road terminus
  • Downey Creek Trail (#768)
  • Sulphur Creek Trail (#793)
  • Sulphur Mt. Trail (#794)
  • Suiattle River Trail (#784)
