North Fork Bridge destroyed in North Cascades National Park

The North Fork Bridge, approx. 10 miles from the trailhead, washed away. A temporary bridge, suitable for hikers but not equestrians, is generally installed seasonally when winter and spring flood risks have passed.

Equestrians can detour using the PCT to Fireweed and then over McAlester Pass. Equestrians with a PCT long-distance permit may use the McAlester Stock Camp without the need for an additional backcountry permit. No camping would be allowed for equestrians with a PCT long-distance permit other than McAlester Stock Camp without an NPS backcountry permit.
