Washington Trail Closure

North Fork Bridge destroyed in North Cascades National Park

The North Fork Bridge, approx. 10 miles from the trailhead, washed away. A temporary bridge, suitable for hikers but not equestrians, is in place. It is scheduled to be removed on November 1, 2021 to prepare the creek for winter high water flows.

Equestrians can detour using the PCT to Fireweed and then over McAlester Pass. Equestrians with a PCT long-distance permit may use the McAlester Stock Camp without the need for an additional backcountry permit. No camping would be allowed for equestrians with a PCT long-distance permit other than McAlester Stock Camp without an NPS backcountry permit.
