On 3-8-12 I was “attacked” by about 35 cows, 1 mile south of Eagle Rock. They started running at me from 150 yards and I stopped them about 20′ from me by aggressively doing standard mountain lion and bear defensive actions (yelling, whistle blowing, swinging my pack around, and slowly backing away from them) etc, at which time they were in a semi-circle around me. They did NOT merely come out of dumb cow curiosity, but what worried them I am not sure. They did a weaker, similar thing on my return trip from Barrel Springs. – hamburger helper
