Heads up to hikers – there is still considerable snow pack around the back side of mt. Thielsen and diamond mountain. It was extremely trick to stay on trail. Gps and yak track footgear would be necessary. Advise all coming this way to take the oregon skyline trail alternate routes by diamond lake and crescent lakes up to shelter cove, for at least the next week or so. Reported 8/8/11.

Mosquitoes were attacking me from all ends. that was 5 minutes into the hike and about 20 bites later …turned around and went home. not a good time to go 🙁

As of June 1st, this section of trail is still under quite a heavy snow load. Unless we have an unforseen major snow melt event, you may want to consider pushing trips back a couple of weeks this summer.
