PROTECTED: The Trailhead to One of the Most Stunning Landscapes in the Northern Sierra
Donate NowCompleted Projects Castle Valley
An acquisition that protects the beginning of a well-used, year-round trail network which leads to some of the most popular and easily accessed backcountry in the Northern Sierra.
With funding from the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), over 400 acres of land along Interstate 80 was purchased to protect one of the most popular trailheads in the Northern Sierra—providing permanent access to millions of people. The acquired property was then sold to Tahoe National Forest.
The area contributes to the protection of the South Yuba River watershed, provides important wildlife habitat for a number of species, and adds outstanding recreational access and opportunity to the public.
