Volunteer needed to be PCT Southern Terminus Host in Spring 2019

March-May 2019

The Cleveland National Forest is seeking a volunteer to provide information and collect visitor use data at the southern terminus of the Pacific Crest Trail near Campo, CA.

Start date: March 2019

Duration: 10-12 weeks

Daily Shift: 7am-12pm, 6 days per week

Cleveland National Forest will provide a campsite (no trailer hook-up), food per diem, and mileage compensation for daily commute (up to 30 miles).

Supervision: volunteer will work under field supervision of the Pacific Crest Trail “Crest Runners”

Note: Couples may also apply to fill this volunteer position.

Specific duties include:

  • Gathering and compiling visitor use data
  • Providing visitors with information about the PCT, including trip planning, permit requirements, preparedness, and trail conditions
  • Educating visitors on Leave No Trace principles, including campsite selection, human waste management, and dry camping considerations
  • Effectively communicating to a wide and diverse audience while working closely with PCT staff and partners.
